Birthing The Revolution: Childbirth Education

Welcome to our comprehensive childbirth education series, designed with a focus on inclusivity and compassion. The series will include four two-hour sessions led by 3 experienced facilitators with over 20 years of combined birthwork experience.

This comprehensive childbirth education series is open to all but centers the diverse experiences of queer & gender expansive, Black, Indigenous, People of the Global Majority (BIPGM).  BIPMG & QTGNC2S (queer, trans, gender non-conforming & two spirit) people will be prioritized in registration. Our sessions provide evidence-based information in a nurturing and supportive environment. Throughout this prenatal education series, participants can expect to have an expansive overview of perinatal wellness, advocacy, care measures, and traditional birth and postpartum practices.

Topics to Expect:

  • The basics of informed decision-making and advocacy during pregnancy, labor, and beyond.

  • Comfort measures and coping with sensations of birth

  • Understanding common interventions

  • Understanding the physiology and process of childbirth (this will include the process of surgical deliveries)

  • Exploring traditional postpartum care.

  • Early newborn care

  • The basics of infant feeding (including bodyfeeding/breastfeeding and bottle feeding)

  • This childbirth education series will take place over 4 weeks meeting once per week. Each gathering will be 3 hours with a break!

  • This is for anyone who is looking for a safer space to learn about childbirth education from a decolonized lens from educators who understand and have lived experience with the various isms that many of us experience when seeking reproductive healthcare.

    This training is also for people who are looking for truth and evidence-based information that still centers Black, Brown, queer, and trans joy!

  • You are welcome to bring one support person of your choice! You are also welcome to bring your children!

  • Yes! We are able to provide childcare on-site upon request!

  • Yes! We also offer payment plans!

  • This series will be in-person!

Meet Your Educators

  • Nadine Ashby

    Nadine (they/them) is the founder and lead educator of Birth Revolution. They are a Black, queer, trans, neurodivergent, full spectrum birthworker, Community Perinatal Educator, and body worker. They were raised attending births with their mom, who was a trusted non-medical community member to many. Nadine has earned a degree in Biology, studied anatomy and physiology, nutrition, and is a student of African American spiritual traditions. They are also a lactation educator, ACTT Advocacy Facilitator and mother of two.

  • Rowan Emmanuel

    Rowan (they/them) is an Indigenous mixed, Xicanx/SWANA, queer, trans, non-binary, neurodivergent, disabled, community herbalist, bodyworker, and full spectrum birth worker living in Mni Sota Makoce. Their healing work focuses on transition, reconnection, laughter and liberation. When not working, they are usually off listening to and smiling with the elements and Ancestors around us and growing food/medicine.

  • Rochelle Vincent

    Rochelle is a Full Spectrum birth and bodyworker. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Public Health and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She currently practices full spectrum birthwork and bodywork on occupied Anishinaabe and Dakhota land in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Rochelle aims to provide care that is radical, compassionate, inclusive, trauma-informed, client- and healing-centered across all pregnancy outcomes and experiences. When Rochelle isn't practicing care work, you can find her spending time with family and friends, in nature or practicing photography.
