How Will It Work?

The Birth Rev doula training will be partially online and partially in person (there will be virtual options for all in person classes to make this more accessible). Over 18 weeks, we will work through a module per week and meet every other Saturday morning to connect, practice, discuss, and dive deeper into the content. All together we will meet 9 times. Nadine (or one of our other amazing educators) will also be available throughout the week to answer questions and provide additional support to those who need it.

Our online platform is interactive and packed with valuable information you can take with you along your birthwork journey! It was important to us to build a neurodiverse team of educators to help make online learning more accessible and engaging. We look forward to sharing space with you!

Revolutionary Birthworker Training Pricing

We offer three pricing tiers so that you can choose what works best for your budget. We reserve 3 openings for pay-what-you-can training to ensure Black and Native people who identify as part of the LGBTQ2+ community have space. This is first come, first serve.

There is a $250 deposit to register ($20 deposit for people using pay-what-you-can). In addition to offering tiers and payment plans, we are also always fundraising. Please check in with us about any funds we may have available to help with training fees for BIPOC folks. No matter what tier you choose, you will receive the same high-quality training.

Because there is such a high mortality rate for Black and Native birthing people, especially birthing people who are queer and/or trans, we are offering training for Black and Indigenous queer and/or trans folks at a pay-what-you-can rate. Select one of the “Register” buttons below. We ask that participants answer demographic questions honestly, so that we can continue to do part of this work for low-cost!

  • Pay-What-You-Can

This option is ONLY available to Black and Native LGBTQ2+ community. We decided to offer this option because we understand the ways that systems of oppression overlap and impact peoples lives. Black and Native communities experience higher rates of violence in our healthcare system and our families deserve to have access to birthworkers who have direct experience navigating these systems.

  • Tier 1

    $1,500

This rate does not account for the actual cost of this training. This tier is reserved for people who need financial support in order to participate in this training.

    2-Month Payment Plans: $625/month

    4-Month Payment Plans: $313/month

    6-Month Payment Plans: $210/month

  • Tier 2

    $2,200

This rate is closer to the actual cost of training and is available for those who cannot afford the full cost, yet still want to support us training select historically marginalized groups at a pay-what-you-can rate.

    2-Month Payment Plans: $975/month

    4-Month Payment Plans: $488/month

    6-Month Payment Plans: $330/month

  • Tier 3

    $3,000

This rate is the actual reflection of the cost of this training. This rate allows us to offer a more equitable rate for educators and helps us to continue to offer Tier 1 and Tier 2 pricing as well as free training for select historically marginalized groups.

    2-Month Payment Plans: $1,375/month

    4-Month Payment Plans: $688/month

    6-Month Payment Plans: $460/month

Exciting News!

We got more funding and are now able to offer our Pay-What-You-Can option to ALL PEOPLE OF THE GLOBAL MAJORITY!

Registration ends 5/29/24

The term “People of the Global Majority” refers to people who are Black, Brown, Asian, dual-heritage, Native to Turtle Island, or indigenous to the global south. We make up 80% of the global population. We use this terminology instead of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), because it is important to decenter whiteness in the way that we speak and refer to ourselves and others.

 Birthworker Training FAQs

  • This training is jampacked with juicy information and traditional knowledge compiled by a diverse and skilled group of birthworkers! Because of that, this training is 4 months long.

  • We are committed to providing training for LGBTQ2+ Black and Native folks at a pay-what-you-can rate!

As donations come in, we plan to offer reduced training rates for Black and Brown people.

  • The next cohort will take place in the summer of 2024! Please add your email to our subscription list to get more information as this is finalized!

  • This training is for…

    • People who want to become doulas/birthworkers

    • People who are already birthworkers, but want to add to their knowledge

      • Be on the look out for smaller training packages just for continuing education!

    • Nurses and other healthcare professionals who are interested in adding to their knowledge

    • Anyone who is interested in anti-racism as it relates to birthwork

  • Yes! We also offer payment plans!

  • Although we believe that requiring certification to do our Ancestral work is racist, we also acknowledge that having certification allows us to bill insurance.

Because of this, we do provide certification and are recognized by the state of MN, so that those who train with us have an opportunity to get on the MN state doula registry.

If you are from a state outside of MN and would like to work together to get on your states registry, please reach out so that we can do all we can to make it happen!

If you decide to certify through us, you will be able to add the letters BR-CB (Birth Revolution-Certified Birthworker/Birthkeeper) after your name.

  • We have two training options:

    • hybrid training (partially online/partially in person).

    • Online training with weekly virtual meetings

“This work is built on a foundation of social justice. It is our goal to guide clients into the birth room with every ounce of knowledge they need to make powerful choices. In all that we do we honor the Ancestors that made it possible for us to continue healing one another through birthwork.”

— Nadine Ashby, Founder of Birth Revolution
